What STEM means at Anderson Elementary School

At Anderson Elementary School, we envision a future where every child is inspired to explore, create, and discover through meaningful STEM learning experiences that connect curiosity with the world around them. Our classrooms will be places where students ask questions, solve problems, and work collaboratively through hands-on opportunities that bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life.

Grounded in the mission of Anderson Community Schools to inspire, encourage, and support every student, Anderson Elementary is committed to helping learners achieve high levels academically, socially, and as responsible citizens. Through inquiry-driven learning, engineering design challenges, creative technology integration, and real-world problem solving, students will develop the confidence to think critically, communicate effectively, and persevere through challenges.

We believe STEM learning should nurture the unique potential of every child while creating opportunities for students to engage with their community in meaningful ways. By fostering collaboration, creativity, and innovation, Anderson Elementary will cultivate durable skills that prepare students for lifelong learning and future success in an ever-changing world.

Our teachers and staff are dedicated to creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where all students are excited about learning and empowered to grow. Through strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and educational partners, Anderson Elementary will continue expanding opportunities that connect classroom learning to authentic experiences and future possibilities.

At Anderson Elementary, STEM is more than a program. It is a mindset that encourages curiosity, celebrates achievement, values diversity, and inspires students to become compassionate problem solvers, engaged citizens, and confident leaders ready to make a difference in their school, community, and beyond.

What makes our STEM program stand out

Building Future Innovators Through Elementary Robotics

At Anderson Elementary School, students are discovering that STEM learning starts early and comes to life through creativity, teamwork, and hands-on problem solving. During the Elementary Robotics Competition, students from across Anderson Community Schools designed, built, and programmed robots while applying engineering, coding, and computational thinking skills in an exciting real-world environment.

Through robotics challenges, students strengthened collaboration, perseverance, and critical thinking as they tested solutions, refined designs, and learned how technology can solve complex problems. Events like this not only spark excitement for STEM learning but also help students begin exploring future pathways in engineering, computer science, and advanced technology fields.

Supported through strong district leadership and community partnerships, Anderson’s elementary STEM programs are creating meaningful opportunities for students to become confident innovators and creators of technology from an early age.

STEM Showcase Through Community Collaboration

Innovation was on full display at Anderson Elementary School during Exhibition Night as 4th grade students proudly showcased robots they designed and programmed through the Minority Health Coalition of Madison County’s after-school STEM program.

Working alongside Anderson High School Robotics students and mentors, elementary students gained hands-on experience with coding, robotics systems, engineering design, and problem-solving. The collaboration created a powerful opportunity for younger students to learn directly from older student leaders while building confidence in STEM skills and technology integration.

The event highlighted the strength of Anderson’s STEM pipeline, where students are encouraged to explore engineering and computer science concepts early while developing communication, teamwork, and creative thinking skills that will support future success in high-demand STEM careers.

Early Coding Skills Development

At Anderson Elementary School, students are being introduced to computer science and computational thinking at an early age through the integration of Wonder Workshop Dash Robots. Thanks to collaboration between district media specialists and STEM leadership, students in grades K–2 are gaining hands-on experience with coding through engaging, age-appropriate robotics activities.

Using Dash Robots, students learn foundational programming concepts such as sequencing, problem-solving, logic, and debugging while exploring creativity and collaboration in a highly interactive environment. These experiences help students build confidence with technology while developing critical thinking skills that support future STEM learning.

By introducing coding and robotics in the elementary years, Anderson Community Schools is creating exciting opportunities for students to become innovative thinkers, creators, and future-ready learners from the very beginning of their educational journey.
