What STEM means at Wes-Del Elementary School

At Wes-Del Elementary School, we believe that every child can learn, grow, and succeed through meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect learning to life. STEM is not a separate subject, it is the foundation of how we teach, learn, and inspire curiosity every day.

Our mission is to reach and teach every child, every day, by immersing students in real-world problem solving, purposeful technology use, and collaborative exploration. From coding and 3D printing to robotics and engineering challenges, Wes-Del Elementary ensures that each student builds the skills and confidence to explore, create, and lead.

Our teachers are the heart of this vision. Through collaboration, innovation, and ongoing professional growth, they bring high-quality STEM instruction to every classroom, nurturing curiosity and empowering students to think critically, communicate effectively, and work as a team.

As a small school with big opportunities, Wes-Del Elementary is committed to sustainability, building a strong, lasting STEM culture that endures through staff changes, evolving technology, and new challenges. We partner with families and the community to make learning visible and meaningful, giving students authentic experiences that link their passions to the world around them.

Together, we are creating a vibrant foundation for lifelong learning where every child is seen, supported, and inspired to design their own future with #WDpride.

What makes our STEM program stand out

Integrated STEM Learning for All K–5 Students

All students in grades K–5 engage in STEM every day through multiple learning environments, including their general education classrooms, our STEM Lab, and Computer Science instruction in Media. Through the Create2Think framework and Project Lead The Way curriculum, students participate in hands-on, inquiry-based learning that builds problem solving, collaboration, and creativity across all content areas.

Meaningful, Real-World Application

Students regularly apply their learning to authentic, real-life projects. From soldering and building working circuits to designing and 3D-printing fishing lures and bobbers they later use outdoors, students see the purpose of what they’re learning and connect STEM to real problem-solving.

Coding, Robotics, & 3D Printing for All Learners

Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through fifth grade, students gain progressive experience with coding, robotics, and 3D printing. This early and consistent exposure builds confidence, creativity, and foundational engineering and computer science skills that grow each year.
